The Glyptoteket

The challenge
The primary goal was to attract more visitors to the museum by providing an engaging online experience that reflects the essence of Glyptoteket’s collections and exhibitions.
Before the website overhaul, Glyptoteket faced several challenges hindering its online performance:
- Inadequate call-to-action elements leading to low e-ticket sales.
- Suboptimal shopping cart display impacting the conversion rate.
- Limited visibility of essential information such as opening hours and ticket prices.
- Manual management of inventory processes that resulted in inefficiencies and inaccuracies.

Approach
We developed a custom theme based on WordPress and Woocommerce, ensuring a responsive design that provides an optimal viewing experience across all devices. The customized WordPress theme enabled Glyptoteket’s staff to easily update and manage website content, including exhibition details, event announcements, and blog posts, as well as adding, updating, categorizing products, set prices, and manage stock levels on the wesbshop part of the solution.
Additionally, we implemented an integration engine that transferred the data from one system (Woocommerce) to another (Navision – Business Central) using APIs. This integration ensured that product listings, pricing, stock levels and customer information remained synchronized across platforms, automating inventory updates and ensuring accuracy.

Technical Details
We utilized PHP and JavaScript as main programming languages for development. The whole stack of technologies and tools is composed by:
- PHP, as the WordPress core is written in this language
- JavaScript and other JS libraries to create interactive elements like sliders and scrollers
- Stylus as a pre-processor of CSS
- MySQL as the engine for the database
- Docker, used for containerization on the integration server
- To build independent and customizable modules, we used the famous ACF Pro plugin and boosted up with the WordPress editor (Gutenberg)
- WPML to make the website have different language versions
- Composer, used for several PHP dependencies
We selected and personalized a high-performance hosting provider and implemented advanced security features, regular backups, and scalable resources to handle traffic spikes during peak times. We also implemented caching mechanisms and content delivery network (CDN) integration to enhance page load speeds and overall user experience.

Results
By creating a new website for Glyptoteket, we successfully addressed the challenges of increasing visitor engagement and driving revenue growth. This case exemplifies the impact of strategic website enhancements and ERP integration in the cultural sector.
