The challenge

Vestas aimed to revamp their Careers site to provide a more engaging and user-friendly experience for potential candidates. The key objectives included:

1. Implementing a custom design that aligns with Vestas’ brand identity.
2. Enhancing navigation and user interactions.
3. Improving the presentation of job listings and embedding multimedia content.

A significant challenge was that Vestas’ Careers site was integrated with SAP SuccessFactors, a platform known for its limitations in terms of customization. This complexity required innovative solutions to implement the desired custom design and functionalities.

Approach

To overcome these challenges and achieve the project objectives, we implemented a custom design using CSS with the Sass preprocessor for efficient and maintainable styling, and JavaScript for interactive functionality.

Technical Details

• Sass Preprocessor: We utilized Sass to manage stylesheets more effectively by taking advantage of variables, nesting, and mixins. This allowed for a more organized and scalable CSS structure.
• Navigation (JavaScript): Implemented smooth scrolling and dynamic menu highlighting to enhance user navigation.
• Date and DOM Manipulation: Used JavaScript to dynamically display current job listings, ensuring that the content was always up-to-date.
• Custom Job Boxes: Created interactive job listing boxes that expand to show detailed information when clicked.
• Video Embedding: Integrated video content to provide a richer multimedia experience, using JavaScript to embed and control video playback seamlessly.

Results

The intuitive and visually appealing presentation of job listings led to a noticeable increase in job applications and both Vestas’ HR team and site visitors provided positive feedback on the enhanced functionality and aesthetics of the site.

The successful implementation of the custom design on Vestas’ Careers site, despite the limitations imposed by the SuccessFactors platform, demonstrates the power of combining CSS with Sass and JavaScript to create a dynamic and user-friendly web experience. This project not only met Vestas’ objectives but also set a new standard for their online recruitment platform.
